Q. Where has this show been all my life? It's the best thing since scissors! A: This baby has been in the proverbial oven for a few years now. The creators of this show have been planning a massive show since around 2005. After all those extensive hours of training and preparation, we finally feel ready to unleash this monster onto the world. Brace yourselves... it's going to be a doozy! What is this show about? A: The show is all about our love for plush! Check out the about page for more information.Q. So who came up with this show idea? A: David Wolk (of Cranky Yellow) had been tossing around the idea of having a really big "SHA-BANG" show for a while. He remembers pouring over books about the Pop Surrealism / Low brow scene at Starclipper Comics back around 2005 and wanted to badly to be a part of that movement. He was just beginning the process of getting Cranky Yellow off the ground, and knew it would be a while before this "BIG BANG" show could happen. At the beginning of 2007, David was able to snag a show spot for the 2008 season at Subterranean Books. This was one of the first steps towards making the "WOW-ZA" show a reality. Initially the plan was to create a collaborative film and document the process and display that collection at Subterranean Books... but that would soon change. In November of 2007, around the time Cranky Yellow opened as a Brick and Mortar store, David and Cate Anevski were discussing plans to present Cranky Yellow to the Art Scene in Saint Louis. This is when the idea of having some sort of judged show came up. They didn't really work out any specifics... so the show idea sort of sat there until one fateful day... ...during one of those cosmic/freak connections when David began talking with Robyn Fabsits. She suggested the idea a group plush show. That thought fit PERFECTLY. David immediately tossed the idea to Cate, who gave the green flag, and thus the show began being planned. Q. How did you come up with the name Crammed Organisms? A: It's a play on the popular phrase Stuffed Animals. Duh! The name was conceived by Cate Anevski! Some of the other ideas were:Royal Plush - Didn't Sound Right. Fluffy Fiction Brought to Fruition - Much to long. (S)tuff Love - This came in a close 2nd. Fisting Fluffy - Sounds REALLY dirty. Feel My Bulging Cotton - Okay... Fine... I just added this one in for giggles. The name Crammed Organisms can also refer to how many plushies will be on display in each venue. Where is it located? A: The show is located at 4 unique, independent venues in Saint Louis, MO! You can click here to meet the venues! When is it happening? A:The whole month of June... and then the shows will hang for 6 weeks after their openings. You can see the show schedule here! What is the theme of the show? A: The theme of the show is Fairy, Folk and Fable! It is based on a short Story written by David Wolk, Angelo S., Nevertidy, and Cate Anevski. How can I apply? You can apply by heading over to the application page! What is the deadline to apply? The Deadline to apply is: March 29th 2008! No exceptions will be made. What sorts of things are you looking for in a submission? The judges will be looking for the cute, lovely, strange, macabre, unusual, well made, cool and funky! They will accept a wide variety of work... so don't feel like you have to fit into "cute and snuggly" to get in.Q. What's this I hear about non-plush plush-related artwork being in the show? A: Yep! We want to allow as many people as possible to get involved. As long as the subject of the work deals with the theme "Fairy, Folk and Fable" and "Plushies" it is fair game to submit! We're also allowing writers to get involved! They will be expanding on the story the show is based on!What's this book thing about? We're creating a book to go with the show. Check out the book page for more information on what we're up to!Q. Hey, greedy gallery-man, how much is this going to cost me? I'll bet you take a huge bite out of my sale, don't you? A: It is free to apply! There is a $35.00 fee if you are accepted. That helps us cover our expenses.Q. How crammed are these organisms going to be? Is anyone even going to be able to see my stuff? A: Pretty Crammed... After all it is our duty to deliver the Worlds Largest Plush Show! Each venue will have lots and lots of pieces, but we promise to give everyone involved a good spot in at least one of the venues. Each show will run for one month, so your work will be seen by TONS of people! All the participating venues are stores with gallery space, which means tons of daily foot-traffic.Q. How many plushies can I make? How big can my plushies be? A: Each participating artist will be asked to create a minimum 4 unique pieces (one for each venue). A piece can be comprised of more than one physical objects though (like a triptych). We really want to fill the space up.Your pieces can be as big as you'd like... but remember you have to pay to ship them here! When will I find out when I'm accepted? Since you're on this site, we're obviously doing something right. We are REALLY pushing a viral/word-of-mouth promotional campaign. If you would like to get involved just click here! We are also working on lots of press releases and promotional materials. What are all these strange blog posts I keep hearing about? We've been using a marketing tactic called Viral Marketing. You may noticed it at work during the recent blockbuster Cloverfield. It basically involves creating a story and characters to interact with a community of people to help promote the event. It's great fun!Are you copying off of Cloverfield? Oh come on now. We did love Cloverfield... but that movie defiantly wasn't the first to utilize a viral marketing campaign! Check out this Wikipedia page for more information! How can I help with the show other than by submitting art? You can help spread the word and promote! You can also donate something to the raffle or just come to the show and support the event! Anything you can do is greatly appreciated! |
